Colleagues applaud Chinook's Edge outgoing superintendent

INNISFAIL – Teachers, trustees and other staff at Chinook’s Edge School Division (CESD) recently gave retired superintendent Kurt Sacher a heart-felt send-off, officials said in press release.

Sacher ended his 15-year term as superintendent of the Innisfail-headquartered division at the end of May.

The division's top employee, the superintendent oversees staff and teachers across the division.

During a ceremony at head office, several people spoke about Sacher’s impact on the division.

Shawn Russell, associate superintendent, said, “The celebration of Kurt highlighted the many ways he has had a lasting impact on the division. I was honoured to be part of celebrating both Kurt’s career and Kurt as a person.”

Jason Drent, associate superintendent, said, “Kurt has an unbelievable gift and skill to encourage the best in everyone.”

Karyn Barber, associate superintendent, said Sacher “fostered a positive culture through the division, ensuring that energies are focused on success for all students.”

Associate superintendents Mike Garrow and Marcie Perdue also spoke.

For his part, Sacher thanked his colleagues for their help over the years.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed looking back at all we have accomplished through both the amazing times and the difficult times,” he said. 

“I will forever be honoured to have my name connected to the incredible people who work in such a caring school division where relationships matter at every level.”

Ryan Sawula has now taken over as superintendent of the 11,700-student CESD, which includes school across the region.
