DIDSBURY - The Town of Didsbury's council has approved additional funding for the Didsbury Memorial Complex 80-spot parking lot project, being undertaken to replace parking spots being removed to accommodate the east reservoir project outside the facility.

The move came by way of motion during a recent, regularly-scheduled council meeting.

Last fall the municipality's council approved $80,000 for the parking lot project.

“Administration approached two contractors with the scope of the work and requested pricing,” the town's acting CAO Amanda Riley said in a briefing note presented to council on July 8. “The low bid exceeded the approved capital budget for this project, therefore administration is seeking council’s approval of an amended budget for this project.”

The updated costs for a gravel parking lot and a paved pathway from the parking lot to the front of the Didsbury Memorial Complex is approximately $200,000, she said.

During discussion of the matter, council members agreed to add parking bumpers in the new lot, at an additional cost of $15,000.

The motion carried by council states: “To approve the amendment of the Memorial Complex additional parking lot project 2025 capital budget to $215,000 to be funding $25,000 from grants and $190,000 from the In Lieu of Municipal Reserve Fund.”

Mountain View County has already approved approximately $25,000 towards the project, council heard.
