Persons crimes in Cremona declined in 2023

CREMONA - There was a marked decrease in persons crimes reported in Cremona in 2023 compared with 2022.

Didsbury RCMP Staff Sgt. Stephen Browne presented the Village of Cremona Didsbury detachment annual crime statistics at a recent village council meeting, which outlined persons, property and other crime numbers.

In 2023, there were two person crimes reported: one sexual offence and one criminal harassment. There were 14 persons cases reported in 2022, including five for robbery, two sexual assault, four assaults, and one criminal harassment.

There were 12 property crimes reported in 2023, down from 19 in 2022. Last year there were six mischief - damage to property crimes reported, two for possession of stolen property, and one for theft of motor vehicle.

Three other criminal code offences were reported in 2023, including two disturbing the peace. There were 11 other criminal code offences reported in 2022.

There was one drug enforcement - trafficking offence reported in 2023. There were also 17 provincial calls reported, including 13 under the Mental Health Act.

Council accepted the RCMP statistics report as information.

During the recent council meeting, newly elected village councillor Autumn Schmidt was sworn-in following her Feb. 6 byelection win. 

Also during the recent council meeting a report was received from Cremona Family and Community Support Service (FCSS).

Activities planned for the coming months include hosting the Kindness Challenge staring on April 2 and running until June 20, and the Volunteer Recognition/Community Champion program running from March 4 to April 30.

Cremona FCSS is also planing to start a seniors food program, offering prepared food to seniors at a very low cost, council heard.

FCSS will be accepting applications for adults to help run the Summer Fun Program.
