CARSTAIRS - The Carstairs Hugh Sutherland School 2024 graduating class is well prepared and ready to face the future, says Valedictorian Wade Longeway.
In his speech at Thursday’s graduation ceremony in the school gymnasium, he said having faced many challenges during their school years, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the graduates can move ahead with confidence.
“As we look forward to the future, there may be a lot of uncertainty,” he said. “Whatever it may be, one constant our grad class can always count on is a changing world, and probably anxiety. However, it is how we respond to what life throws at us that matters.
“Despite how challenging this may be, I am confident in my grad class that we can be triumphant over it. This group has already shown themselves to be formidable forces when it comes to athletics, academics and other personal achievements.”
Longeway thanked and commended teachers, staff, parents and other supporters for helping his fellow students through their years at Hugh Sutherland.
“I have repeatedly witnessed countless times our teachers have gone above and beyond to ensure our success in both school and personal matters. Their guidance has been invaluable,” he said.
Parents, siblings, other family members and other supporters attended the graduation ceremony, with a number of dignitaries offering congratulations and words of encouragement.
