VICTORIA — A passenger was rescued after going overboard during a BC Ferries sailing that departed from Metro Vancouver's Tsawwassen terminal on Wednesday.
A statement from BC Ferries says the vessel stopped shortly after leaving the terminal at 1 p.m. in response to reports that a passenger was in the water.
It says another ferry quickly joined the rescue effort, and BC Ferries crew members brought the person to safety.
The ferry company says the person was reportedly in stable condition and taken to hospital by ambulance.
The BC Ferries website shows some sailings later Wednesday were delayed due to the marine rescue.
The company says the safety of passengers and crew members is its highest priority.
"We recognize how distressing this incident was for those on board and we are grateful for the swift actions of our crew and emergency responders," it says.
