There was a lineup of voters outside the entrance of the Sundre Elks Lodge No. 338 just before noon on Monday, April 28 as people came out to cast a ballot in the federal election.

All 252 Yellowhead polling divisions of the 45th general federal election reported results by Tuesday morning after polls closed in Alberta at 7:30 p.m. on April 28.

While returning officers can’t declare who was elected until after a validation process that must take place within six days of polling day, Elections Canada releases preliminary results.

According to preliminary results, 74.78 per cent (69,145 ) of 92,461 registered Yellowhead electors cast valid votes, although the total does not include electors who registered on election day.

According to Elections Canada, "this has been a high-interest election, and many Canadians cast their vote early, whether by special ballot or at advance polls."

A total of 27,666 people cast ballots in the federal election advance polls in the new Yellowhead riding between April 18 and April 21, according to Elections Canada.

Nationwide, a record number of votes were cast at advance polls.
